2022-2023 Fifth Grade Honorees and essays

Throughout our lives, we experience numerous lessons that shape who we become. This means that I am dedicated and will complete any task no matter what. I am reliable, dedicated and a team player. I balance education, dance, sports, etc. Sometimes, it becomes a little difficult and overwhelming balancing different activities daily. However, it is worth it! From what I learned about self-discipline is that you NEVER GIVE UP, you keep pushing until you complete your task. One thing you MUST have is a positive mindset, always set goals and achieve them. When you are struggling, you work hard to get the job done. Staying focus is also something you need. Try focusing for a day and you will be on the right track the next, if you are truly dedicated and/or positive about something, then go for it and prove that you have great work ethic. You can be successful if you put in the work. Self-Discipline leads to remarkable success in life. Some of my self-discipline qualities are always working continuously, finding better solutions, and being determined to do great things. I'm always working hard and trying to achieve my goals and trust me it's not easy, but sometimes I think about what happens when I achieve my goal, I feel proud and successful. It is that feeling that makes me work harder, makes me determined, and makes me think that I will achieve my goals. 

Character is defined as the beliefs, behaviors and ways of being that lead people to have success. To me, respect is the most important character trait. Having respect means having high or special regards being thoughtful or being considerate of others. I have always learned that if you give respect to others, respect will be given in return to you and you will be led in the right direction. To me, respect is most important because respect can get you where money cannot. Respect can also get you almost anywhere in life. Respect is also important to me because respect gives you the opportunity to show others how much you care. 

Gratitude is one positive emotion in life. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives. Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate the things that we often take for granted.
 Another aspect of gratitude is being thankful for what you have, like a place to live, food, clean water, friends, family members, and Jesus. Showing gratitude is being truly thankful. If you don’t have gratitude you could run into a lot of problems. 

One problem you could run into is a sense of incompletion or brokenness because of a lack of gratitude. You also could hurt others. The individual may be hurt by your lack of gratitude or being ungrateful. Sometimes it could hurt when you are not properly thanked by others. Therefore, express gratitude when someone does something for you. If you have Gratitude it will take you very far. 

For the final analysis, the key to having gratitude is to have positive emotions every day in your heart. When you hold to the positive you learn to see the best in everything. Seeing the best and doing things that you know are correct helps make you feel grateful.

The character trait that best defines me is trustworthiness. Being trustworthy to me is like keeping a secret. Being trustworthy is important to me because when a family member, friend or classmate tells you something they don’t want others to know, and you tell other people, they might not trust you anymore. You can be trustworthy anywhere, at school, with friends and online. 

At school, a student drops money on the playground, and no one sees it but you, yet you return it. That is being trustworthy, and that is who I am. I am trustworthy with my friend’s online account. When your friend gives you the password for their Roblox account, if you change the password or steal it, that is dishonest, and you would not be trustworthy. I would never steal or change my friend’s password. 

Do right and think about what you do so that others will trust you. Being trustworthy is like an uncracked egg, when you crack it, everything comes out. Therefore, when you lose someone’s trust, it is hard to get back, and most times, you may not earn it back. This is why being trustworthy is important to me. 

The character trait that is most important to me is “Respect”. The reason why I chose this character trait is to show how I show respect to others around me and how others can do the same. One way I show respect is to say “Thank You”. Many people may forget to say “Thank You” or may not even say it at all even though this is a way to show respect. To sum it all up, when you say “Thank You” to someone, that does something for you as an act of kindness, this shows respect. 

My parents named me Faith. Having the name Faith is special because faith is more than just a name. according to https://kids.wordsmyth.net faith means "trust or confidence". I believe my parents chose this name for me because they wanted these characteristics to be part of my character. 

I think Faith is the most important character trait. The key word Faith means trust. Being trustworthy is very important. I believe that having faith can start friendships, relationships, and bonds. Faith is a key part of someone who has character. 

Trust starts from within you. It takes a while to be able to trust and to be trustworthy. Hope is very important to have. Hope is like believing in something you can't see. You have to have hope to have faith. The word hope means believing. 

Self-confidence is a part of faith. Self-confidence means believing in yourself and having dignity. Having self-confidence is important when it comes to having character. Character is not just anything anyone has. Having faith means having character is one step away. 

Trustworthiness and self-confidence are both an important part of faith. Faith is the most important character trait to me because I am Faith! 

The most important character trait to me is trust. When you tell someone a secret, you trust them to keep it to them self. When a friend asks you to keep something that means a lot to them, they trust you to not break it or lose it and when your group of friends shares most of their secrets and give items that are important to them they all trust you not to break or lose these items. Most friendships are made from trust so no trust means no friends to have fun with. Overall trust is important to me because without trust and other traits you will probably not have friends.

Everyone is different, my friends have special skill that makes them different from each other. They use these skills to gain the trust of others. For example, when I just started school here at Hunter-  Kinard Tyler Elementary I got others to trust me by helping them when they needed it. Sometimes we need honest people that we trust to understand what is happening around us. Being trustworthy is being a caring person, gaining the trust of others and having sympathy.

Trust allows you to develop friendships bonds that builds upon the relationships. There are people who trust easily and people who find it hard to trust. Without trust you are suspicious at everyone and everything and this can cause stress on your mind and body which can probably make you sick. Trust is important as a character trait because it develops meaningful and long-lasting relationships in school and life. This is a trait that others look for in a person, it makes them feel safe while telling them their secrets. When people see you care and can rely on what you say, and that you are honest, you will be given important tasks and you will be respected.

There are many important Character Traits. But one that I think is very important is optimism. You may be wondering why is it important to me and the world. It’s because it makes a difference and changes situations.

First, optimism is important because if you are not optimistic you may be a downer. When you see the good in things you can do anything! For example, you make a mistake. If you’re optimistic you will see that you learned from it.

Next, when optimism is shown it makes a difference. Not only does it make other people feel good, it makes you feel happy and proud too. If you ever find yourself or someone else upset, be optimistic. I know because I broke my necklace, but Aly said we could use the parts to make something cool. She turned a bad situation good!

Finally, optimism is very important in todays world because around the globe there are many homeless people. They need to have optimism to go on. They also need to be shown optimism when you give a homeless person a dollar they don’t say this is nothing they thank you and say at least it’s something.

In conclusion, the character trait optimism is very important because it makes society happy and it helps people out. Optimism is important to me because it can help solve problems and prevent some inconveniences.

 Courage is the most important trait to me. Courage is the quality of being ready and willing to face any obstacle or situation. I believe my courage shows what kind of person I am. Courage allows me to be brave. Courage allows me to stand up for others, and make me feel like a better person. Whenever I face my fears, I no longer feel nervous. I feel as confident as can be. I truly believe, if everyone had courage we would not have to worry about bullying or anything, and more people will spread courage around the world. To me courage is more than just a trait, it is a superpower that I am proud to have. 

The character trait that means the most to me is respect. Respect is defined as a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something.  

As a young child, my parents and teachers taught me the golden rule: to treat people how I would like to be treated. This statement simply means to be a nice person to everyone I encounter. For example, when I walk into my school building, I make sure I greet or speak to others in a kind and respectful way. Likewise, when I notice that someone is having a bad day, I try my best to put a smile on their face by doing a random act of kindness.  

I also show respect at home. For example, I do my daily chores at home to show my parents I respect our home. I also show respect towards my little sister and brother by volunteering to help them with their homework and other responsibilities around the house.  

By showing and practicing respect towards myself and others has allowed me to have better relationships with my classmates and family. It also encourages other students around me to show respect as well.  

In closing, we all know what it means to be disrespected, so I choose to exhibit the character trait of respect in my home school and community, and I want to encourage you to continue to do the same.  

The foundational character traits that my parents have instilled in me are creativity, self-discipline, respect, curiosity, patience, and determination. Determination is the character trait that is most important to me. To have determination there must be a level of confidence which allows one to persevere towards a goal despite obstacles that will come your way. I am determined to be great! Determination is important to me because I am extremely motivated and focused on what I want to achieve in life. I am determined to remain enthusiastic and passionate about everything that I do. I am unafraid to step outside my comfort zone and always welcome new challenges. I continue to maintain a  positive mindset and high self-esteem to push myself towards success. As I continue my educational journey, I am determined to make all A’s, and I am also determined to be great at whatever I do in life. When it is all said and done, I am determined to be the BEST there IS, WAS, and EVER WILL BE!!

The character trait that means the most to me is Respect. Aretha Franklin says it best; “R-e-s-p-e-c-t find out what it means to me”. Respect can take you a very long way. I believe in respecting others for who they are. A. D. Williams once said “Imagine what 7 billion humans could accomplish if we loved and respected one another”. Imagine if all humans would stick together, if we all were different but still cheer for each other at the same time, if there were fairness and no comparison.

Respect is defined when you respect somebody for who they are, even when they’re different from you or you don’t agree with them. When I think of the highest characteristics, I think of Respect. When respect is earned from others, it is one of the most important things someone can give. Respecting the rights, character, and opinion of others shows integrity and compassion. However, respect starts with respecting yourself, when we respect ourselves we show good characteristics, value, and morals. Not only will we feel good about ourselves, others will treat you with the same respect that’s displayed in your character. Respect builds honesty and bright future. Simple acts of kindness and honesty not only show respect for individuals, but it shows that you possess high ethical standards for that individual. 

In closing, I always demonstrate respect for others where ever I go. Each of us should encourage respect amongst our peers, teachers, adults, and citizens. If we practice showing respect we could build a better community and nation.

The character trait that is most important to me is creativity.  According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, creativity is “ the ability to create; the quality of being creative.” Creativity means I have a lot of ideas and one trait of creativity that I have is daydreaming. Daydreaming is known to reduce stress and anxiety. Daydreaming also helps with problem-solving and enhances creativity, which can even improve memory. However, daydreaming can also cause you to lose focus and get distracted. The final characteristic of being creative that I possess and I am going to talk about is mindfulness. I am very aware of my surroundings most of the time. Every moment I feel like I’m aware of my thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. All in all, I feel like I do have a creative mindset because all of these characteristics suits me, and I have experienced them all at some point. Creativity is the most important character trait to me.

Respect is the character trait that stands out the most to me. Respect is having good manners and treating people how you want to be treated. It is very important to respect everybody, including their wishes and even their traditions.

My parents teach us at home that it is important to have respect.  They often tell us that having respect and good manners will take you a long way in life. A few examples of being mannerable and respectful are saying “please” and “thank you” to your peers and saying 

“Yes ma’am” or “No Sir” to your teachers, parents, and other adults.  

It is really important to respect your parents as well as everybody else at home.Respect starts at home, as you can be respectful by listening and watching your tone and attitude when responding to others. Suppose you have siblings; you should respect their personal space and property.  It is very important in our house is to always treat people how you want to be treated. 

One thing that I recently learned is respecting others' traditions. Not all people have the same belief as I do.  I have a friend with a different culture than mine. This individual does not celebrate Christmas or birthdays. In order to be respectful, during Christmas break, I remembered not to say Merry Christmas or ask him what he had gotten for Christmas. It is important for me to do this because that is what my parents taught me.

Overall, being respectful and having good manners are important to me because I would like people to treat me how I treat them and as I said before, I always try to treat people how I want to be treated.

As I was trying to decide what character trait fits me best, I asked my mom what did being humble mean.  She told me that it meant being responsible and putting others in front of you. She went on to say that it means being grateful for any and every blessing and helping family and friends. I thought to myself, that fits me best.

I am always grateful for everything I’m given. I also try my best to be a very responsible person when I am given a task.  I am grateful for people loving and taking care of me; So, I will always love and care for others. I am so grateful my parents taught me this way. 

Being chosen to represent Felton is an honor, but also scary. I am a shy person who would rather sit in the back, rather than be in front of the crowd. I feel that I have other classmates who display great character as well; However, I am happy and proud that my classmates chose me.

Do you think honesty is important? I think that honesty is special, because God always said to tell the truth. We should always follow Him in his footsteps.

One person who is honest, is my Dad. He has never told me a lie before. My Grandma is honest too. She has never stolen anything as long as she has lived. My Preacher Larry is honest because he talks about and tells about His wonders. 

You should always be honest for these reasons. I think this is why being honest is the most important. I really hope this story helped you to be honest.
