“Walls That Speak” is a public-art initiative, launched by the Orangeburg County Community of Character (OCCOC). The project is designed to inspire, educate, and bring the community together through the creation of mural. “Walls That Speak” will transform a blank wall into a vibrant canvas that reflects the shared values, heritage, and aspirations of Orangeburg County.

The mural can be viewed at 1361 Event Studio in Orangeburg, SC, where Jennifer Chatman is the property owner.

Our blank canvas: 1361 Event Studio
Ija Charles has been hard at work creating our Character mural! Check out the video below to see the progress made in 2024.
Ms. Ija Charles of Columbia, SC, has contributed several mural creations to Columbia's mural art scene. Her work can also be seen in the City of Cayce and the Richland Public Library and has been displayed at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. Her portfolio includes commissioned pieces for the NFL and the Bob Marley Family for the movie "One Love."
More recently, she was one of five artists commissioned to create artwork displayed at the Netflix film premiere of "Shirley", which highlights the legacy of Shirley Chisholm.
